New Hours at the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center

The West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center has extended its hours and will now be open on the weekends. The new hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.

“We are beginning to see an increase in the number of people who are traveling,” says center director Sonia Outlaw-Clark, “and we’re happy to remain open later and on weekends to accommodate our visitors.”

As always, admission is free and plenty of parking is available. Besides providing tourist information, the center is home to three regional museums.

“The new weekend hours will also give West Tennesseans a chance to visit and learn more about our area,” adds Outlaw-Clark.

The center invites visitors to enjoy art, an aquarium, the blues and other regional sounds and to explore the history of cotton in West Tennessee. In addition to the permanent exhibits, visitors can browse displays depicting attractions and events throughout West Tennessee. A variety of traveling exhibits will also make occasional appearances.

The home of legendary bluesman Sleepy John Estes is located at the center and open for touring. Summer concerts on the porch of the small shotgun house are in the planning stages. Families will be invited to pack a picnic, or pick up something from the surrounding restaurants, bring their blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of music on the grounds.

The West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center is located at 121 Sunny Hill Cove, just off I-40 at Exit 56, behind McDonald’s in Brownsville, Tenn. Group tours are welcome and meeting facilities are available. For more information, call the center at 731-779-9000, or visit www.westtnheritage.com.
