Dr. John Larson
First Presbyterian Church of Brownsville is please
to announce that Dr. John W. Larson, Natchez, Miss., has joined the church
family. Dr. Larson will serve as Interim Pastor.
Dr. Larson is a native of Vicksburg, Miss., and a
graduate of Ole Miss, Southwestern (now Rhodes College) in Memphis and Columbia
Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Ga., where he received a Masters of Divinity
and a Doctor of Ministry. Dr. Larson took preparatory classes in January 2009
to become certified as an Interim Pastor.
Before coming to Brownsville, Dr. Larson served as
pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Natchez, Miss. While in Natchez, he took
on duties as church historian, served as president of the local Ministerial Alliance
and belonged to many civic organizations. He is very active in Presbytery work,
having served as a Commissioner to the General Assembly and on various other
boards and committees. Before moving to Natchez in 2004, he served as pastor in
Columbus, Miss., and Hoover, Ala.
Dr. Larson began his duties at First Presbyterian
Church Brownsville on August 1. He will serve here for the next year as the
church seeks a new installed pastor.
Dr. John W. Larson is married to Judi. They have
two children, Jennifer and John Jr. Judi is finishing her last year towards
retirement as a school librarian at the public high school in Natchez. Jennifer
and her family live in Nashville, Tenn. John Jr., is in graduate school at the
University of Southern Mississippi.
The community is invited to meet Dr. Larson and
join the First Presbyterian Church family for worship Sunday mornings at 10:30
a.m.
