Toddler Time at the Library: Toddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be held Monday October 5 & 19, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack.

NAACP Banquet: The Brownsville-Haywood County Branch of the NAACP will hosts its annual Awards and fundraising banquet on Saturday, October 3. The event is a black tie affair (black tie is optional). Guest speaker will be Dr. LaSimba Gray, Jr. of New Sardis Baptist Church in Memphis. Portions of the banquets proceeds will go to fund summer employment for youth working through the Haywood county Youth Employment Program. The event will be hels at Carver School Gym and begins with a meet and greet at 5 p.m. and banquet at 6 p.m. Tickets are $35 and available by calling 731-780-1887.

30th Annual Tennessee Trash Car Show: This year will mark the 30th anniversary for the Tennessee trash Car Show in Brownsville. The event will take place Sunday, October 18. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and judging will begin at noon. the event will take place at the WOW/Elma Ross Public Library. Neighborhood Watch/Community Meeting: Alderman Carolyn Flagg, Ward 2, will host a Neighborhood Watch/Community meeting on Thursday, October 8, 6 p.m., at the WOW building on Boyd. All residents of Ward 2 and other interested community members are invited to attend and ask questions. Also welcome are comments and ideas regarding ways to improve our neighborhoods. Topics will include new measures to reduce abandoned vehicles, the Police Dept.'s new website and Brownsville's Most Wanted system. The Brownsville Fire Department will discuss fire safety tips and the Ambulance Authority will speak on Tips for preventing the spread of the flu virus.

2009 Holiday Extravaganza: It's time for Ut Extensions annual Holiday Extravaganza. The event will be held Saturday, October 24, 9:30 -11:30 am., at the Tennessee Technology Center - Brownsville Campus, 401 Morgan St. Space is very limited. Pre-registration is required. Registration fee is $15 and is due by Oct. 20. Learn easy ways to create decorating ideas for the holidays, inexpensive crafts to cleberate the season and delicious, simple recipes to nourish. Free Weight Management Classes: Curves of Brownsville will be conducting a free weight management class Saturday, October 10, 2009, at 10 a.m. The classes will teach Curves' proven method for losing weight and raising metabolism. More studied than any other program, Curves' classes are based on the groundbreaking new research findings of the Exercise & Sport Nutrition Laboratory at Texas A&M University. Classes are open to members and non-members. Classes include: Start-Up Class (90 minutes) for first-time participants; Phase 3 (30 minutes) to teach the last and most important stage of the Curves Weight management Plan and the secret that makes the plan work; and Special Topics Classes (30 minutes) will cover a different topic each month. This month's topic is Cancer Prevention. Classes will be taught by Curves' Registered Dietitian, Nadia Rodman, and facilitated by weight management coaches from Curves of Brownsville, through a series of DVDs that will alternate teaching with hands-on activities. Participants will be encouraged to make a weekly appointment to weigh in with their weight management coach, who will provide accountability. Fall Fest at the Lake: Zion Baptist Church will hosts its annual Fall Fest at the Lake on Saturday, October 31, beginning at 5 p.m. There will be a 1950s theme, lots of food and music. Everyone is invited. The event will take place at the lake behind the church.

Trunk and Treat: Holly Grove Baptist Church, 8488 Poplar Corner Road, will host a circle of cars and trucks with trunks and tailgates open and candy goodies to share with kids Saturday, October 31, from 5-7 p.m. There will be drawings for kids and adult for free prizes, a cakewalk, hula hoop and oreo contests and more. All free and rain will move it indoors. Also available will be food at 1970 prices: hot dog, chips and drink for $1.25. Everyone is invited and kids are welcome to dress in non-scary costumes.
