Free Weight Management Classes: Curves of Brownsville will be conducting a free weight management class Saturday, November 14, 2009, at 10 a.m. The classes will teach Curves' proven method for losing weight and raising metabolism. More studied than any other program, Curves' classes are based on the groundbreaking new research findings of the Exercise & Sport Nutrition Laboratory at Texas A&M University. Classes are open to members and non-members. Classes include: Start-Up Class (90 minutes) for first-time participants; Phase 3 (30 minutes) to teach the last and most important stage of the Curves Weight management Plan and the secret that makes the plan work; and Special Topics Classes (30 minutes) will cover a different topic each month. This month's topic is Cancer Prevention. Classes will be taught by Curves' Registered Dietitian, Nadia Rodman, and facilitated by weight management coaches from Curves of Brownsville, through a series of DVDs that will alternate teaching with hands-on activities. Participants will be encouraged to make a weekly appointment to weigh in with their weight management coach, who will provide accountability. Rotary Pancake Day: Brownsville Rotary Club will host its annual Pancake Day on Tuesday, November 3, beginning at 7 a.m. Cost is $5 per person. Pancakes are available for eat-in or carry-out in Culver Hall at First United Methodist Church on Franklin St. All proceeds benefit Rotary projects including scholarships. Tickets are available from any Rotary member, Haywood High Interact member or at the door.

Arts Council will be presenting Ballet Memphis's Nutcracker - Act II,  & additional Repertory, on Tues., Nov. 17, 7 p.m.  -  Marks Performing Art Center at College Hill. Community Thanksgiving Service: The Brownsville - Haywood County Ministerial Alliance welcomes everyone to attend the annual Community Thanksgiving Service planned for Tuesday, November 24. This year's service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 117 East Franklin St., and will begin at 7 p.m. The message will be delivered by Rev. Robert Cole. The offering for this service will go to benefit then eeds of the Mustard Seed. Everyone is welcome to come and join in the spirit of gratefulness in this communitiy worship service.
