Toddler Time at the Library: Toddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be held Monday August 3 & 17, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack. Lunch 'N Learn at the Library: Lunch and Learn is planned for Wednesday, August 26, at noon at the Elma Ross Public Library. Each month promises an interesting speaker and an opportunity to learn something new. Remember to bring your lunch and the library will provide your drink and dessert. BBA Meeting: The Brownsville Business Association will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 18, 5:30 p.m., in the Delta Room behind Backyard Barbecue, 703 East Main St. Everyone is invited. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4838: Monthly meeting of veterans who have fought in foreign wars to conduct business and plan for future events that involve veterans or veteran's programs. Relay for Life: Relay for Life will be Friday, August 7, at the Football field beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature the Survivor Walk, Luminary Ceremony, live entertainment. Team booths will be set-up with food and games available all evening. 2nd Annual Breakfast for Babies: The 2nd Annual Breakfast for Babies willbe held Thursday, August 27, from 6-10 a.m., at RJs Hibachie on Dupree St. Breakfast will be served by local "celebrities" and include Senator Delores Gresham. You will also have the opportunity to meet Haywood County's 2009 Ambassadors Parker and Harrison Green, twin sons of LeAnna Parker Green. All tips and 10% of breakfast will go to the March of Dimes. Ducks Unlimited Membership Banquet and Auction: Brownsville Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual membership banquet and auction on August 13th at the First United Methodist Church gym in Brownsville. Doors will open at 6:00 pm and the auction will begin about 7:00 pm. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance from Stephen Leith at 731-780-7024 or Taylor Butterworth at 731-780-5418. Ticket prices include a meal, admission to the auction and a one years membership in Ducks Unlimited. DU is the leader in wetland conservation and your membership contribution as well as auction proceeds all go to support these preservation efforts. National Night Out:The City of Brownsville & Ward 2 will join cities nationwide for "AMERICA'S NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME" Tuesday, August 4, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Eastside School Practice Field. Come join your neighbors for a night of community spirit. Strengthen your neighborhood and increase awareness of crime & drug prevention. There will be food, activities, information booths, music and entertainment for all ages. Dance Class Registration: The Martin Dance Studio located in the WOW building will be conducting registration for the fall semester classes for girls on Friday, August 7, from 2-7 p.m. Sign-ups will take place at the WOW building on Boyd Avenue, across from Parks and Recreation. Annual Steak N' Burger Dinner: The Boys and Girls Club annual Steak N' Burger dinner will be held Saturday, August 29, 2009, at 6 p.m., at the Carver Gymnasium, 709 East Jefferson. Special guest speaker will be Brownsville's own Jarvis Varnado, a former HHS basketball star and current player for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Gold and Silver sponsor tables are available for $500 and $400, respectively; and individual tickets are available for $30 each. West Tennessee Friends of NRA Fundraiser Banquet & Auction: Friends of the NRA Banquet will be held Thursday, August 27, 6-10 p.m., at First South Bank Banquet Hall (behind bank) 308 West Main. The Friends of NRA fundraiser banquets support our hunting & shooting heritage. 90% of funds generated go toward youth related projects such as hunter education, skeet/trap teams, range development, Boy Scout projects, etc. Half of the money raised remains in the State of Tennessee with the other half going toward national projects such as the Olympic Shooting Team. $25 ticket includes meal and opportunity for door prize. Relay for Life Bake Sale: Haywood Park Community Hospital will have a Relay for Life Bake Sale beginning at 9 a.m., Thursday, August 6, in the main lobby. The sale will last until the last item is sold. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Friends Night at the Library: All are invited to attend Friends Night at the Elma Ross Public Library on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. The guest speaker for this evening will be Mr. Whit Perry author of "Delta Jacks." Benefit for Robert Burns: A Spaghetti Supper & Singing Benefit for Robert Burns (cancer patient) will be held on Saturday, August 15, at the “M” Club (Old Central School) in the Hillville Community. Plates will be $5 each and includes spaghetti, slaw, garlic bread, dessert and drink. Carry out plates will be available. Bethel University Ribbon Cutting: Join the Chamber of Commerce as they welcome Bethel University to Brownsville during a Ribbon Cutting to be held Thursday, August 13, at 10 a.m. The event will take place at the Chamber office, 121 West Main. Everyone is invited. Southwest Annual Meeting: The 2009 Annual Meeting of Southwest Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation will be held Friday, August 14, at College Hill. The meeting begins at 6 p.m., with registration and giveaways and include grilled hot dogs, ice cream and drinks. Activities will be available for all age groups including safety and energy displays for adults and games for the kids. The business meeting begins at 7 p.m., followed by entertainment by Renewed Gospel Ministries. Ken-Ten Tractor Pull Continues: Due to a broken chain, the July 17 event has been rescheduled for Friday, August 14, 7 p.m., at the lot beside Pictsweet on Hwy. 76 S. Admission will be free and will include the classes who were unable to pull at the July event. Concessions will be available and proceeds will go to the Park of Dreams. They will be availble for pick-up Thursday, Sept. 3, from 4-6 p.m., in the WOW parking lot. Butts must be pre-ordered. Deadline to order is Monday, August 31.
