Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge

Located entirely within Haywood County, Tennessee, is the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge and 23.5 miles of the state-designated Hatchie Scenic River. The Hatchie River is the longest free-flowing tributary of the lower Mississippi, and contains the largest forested floodplain in Tennessee. Over 100 species of fish, including 11 species of catfish, populate the river and makes for a prime fishing area. Hunting is also enjoyed on the Refuge and Project Fish allows handicap-accesible fishing on Oneal Lake, a 130 acre lake located on the Refuge. The Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge is located approximately 3 miles out of Brownsville and just off of Interstate 40, Exit 56, on State Highway 76 South.

West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center

Just off I-40, Exit 56, is the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center. Built in 1998, the center offers visitors a taste of what West Tennessee has to offer. Inside the Tennessee Room, you will find displays and information about all 22 counties in West Tennessee. The center also consists of three other museums — Cotton Museum, Music Museum and Hatchie River Museum. At the center you will also find the home of "Sleepy" John Estes, legendary blues singer and Brownsville native. "Sleepy" John, Hammie Nixon and Yank Rachel all called Brownsville, Tennessee, "home." And are known locally as the Brownsville Bluesmen.

Nutbush, Tennessee

Nutbush, Tennessee, located within Haywood County, and made famous by the rock star who was born here, Tina Turner. Located several miles outside of Brownsville on State Highway 19, also know as Tina Turner Highway, the small community of Nutbush welcomes visitors to its "city limits."

College Hill Center

College Hill Center is home to the Haywood County Museum, the Morton Felsenthal Lincoln Collection and the Haywood County Sports Museum. Established as the Brownsville Baptist Women's College in 1851, the center has been a boys training center and later became the Haywood County High School. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. (closed from 12-1) and on Sundays from 1-5 p.m., On Saturday for groups by appointment. Call 731-772-4883.

Dunbar Carver Alumni Museum
and Cultural Center

The Dunbar Carver Alumni Museum and Cultural Center is located at 709 East Jefferson Street. The museum opened September 1, 2007, and showcases the achievements of African-American students in Haywood County. Hours are 1-3 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Private tours are available by calling 731-772-8719 or 731-772-6088. Admission to the museum is free, but donations are accepted.
